TRUTH
God did not design marriage to just bring us happiness, or fulfill our earthly dreams.
Marriage is God's TRAINING PROGRAM, to transform us from being self-centered individuals into people who can love another MORE than ourselves (LIKE JESUS).
Our happiness does not rely on the "nice" actions of our spouse. In fact, God purposely uses the shortcomings and neediness of our mates like an abrasive grit to polish us (like gems). The goal is NOT to change our mates to better serve our needs. The goal is to allow God to transform ME via the challenges of marriage into a more loving creature.
Genuine happiness & joy comes when we can look in the MIRROR and see less of our needy selves, and more of our loving Savior.
God's primary goal is to reshape us in the image of Jesus, as patient and loving, yet full of courage. Marriage is His "sledgehammer" to reshape us!
We will do things for love that we would not bother to do just for ourselves.
To succeed in marriage we must draw on God's "Agape" Love (unconditional, unselfish, total LOVE) in order to love our spouses as Christ loves the church. It is this act that transforms us to become more like Jesus. Our happiness is a bi-product --- not the goal of marriage. The goal of marriage is to learn to love like Jesus, and thus fully become what God designs us to be.

I have the utmost respect for a woman who says "Let me check with my husband first." OR, a man who says, "Let me run it past my wife and I'll get back with you...."
It isn't that you can't make a decision on your own. It's just that when you are in a relationship you value the other person so much that you DON'T make decisions on your own. A good relationship is not just about being exclusive. It's also about being inclusive.

Keeping it REAL:
Alright, so we are rightfully unhappy about the passage of social impacting laws that do not honor God.
In the areas where WE ARE RESPONSIBLE, with our own children, have we been proactive (INTENTIONAL) in training them about God’s design for our lives? WHO is supposed to teach our kids, (Disciple them), about the important issues that can impact their lives?
Are we teaching them about why God does not want us to get “under the influence” of ANY drug, not just the illegal ones.
AND Are we teaching about marriage and especially the special role of sex and intimacy between husbands and wives? Or, like most parents, are we leaving it for some biology class at school (or the discussions about sex our kids talk about at recess starting in elementary school). Isn’t sex more than plumbing and hormones? Most of our kids have the notion that God must hide His eyes when married couples make love!
Let’s be honest and look at the fact that church kids are just as active in participating in risky behavior and experimentation as those who do not attend church. We can howl when the majority of the population votes for behaviors that violate our moral standards, but are we doing anything to keep our own children from falling into the “norm” of what all their peers are doing?
I believe God will hold me responsible for what I taught (or failed to teach) my own children. Am I the only one?

The World that "God So Loves" is filled with People we cannot stand. Instead of praying for God to change THEM, we need to ask Him to change our hearts.

I believe churches are meant for praising God.
But so are 2AM car rides, coffee shops, workout sessions, singing in the shower. And conversations with friends and strangers.
Don't let a building confine your faith because we will never change the world by just going to church.
WE NEED TO BE THE CHURCH.

There's only one thing that makes someone change: Their own conclusion that they need to do it.
And there's only one time it will happen: When they decide they're ready. Since God has not given you an APP that controls their choices, He does not need your help to save them.
REFOCUS your day on the things that God has given you control over: YOUR CHOICES, and give the Holy Spirit room to work in the other person.
You CAN keep Praying for them, that is God sharing His Power with you.
USE IT

ONLY HUMAN
As Christians, we need to stop using the excuse that we are "only human". As for me, on my WORST day, I am "Christ Jesus in Ron Shaw" and I have the full power of the Holy Spirit within me, available to me IF I will allow Him to use it in me. I am the temple of that Holy Spirit and I can choose to let the Light shine forth, or I can stuff it under a basket. To say we are "only human" is to ignore the greatest gift we have ever received: JESUS living within us -- in our hearts and souls. Let's stop turning to worldly explanations for our own lack of spiritual commitment. Stop living a lie so the Truth can set us free!
